Bishop’s Thompson’s

Anniversary of

Installation

Bishop Charles C. Thompson was installed as the Fifth Bishop in the Diocese of Evansville on June 29, 2011.

Thanks

Father John Boeglin writes in the parish newsletter at Holy Family Parish in Jasper, “I want to thank Becky Siewers for her dedicated years of service as our Bosco Youth Leader. She has done an outstanding job! She will retire from that position mid-summer.

“Her husband, Joe, will be ordained a permanent deacon on Aug. 3 at the cathedral in Evansville. This is a big step for them as a couple. Joe and Becky, we wish you well in future endeavors.”

Happy Birthday!

Cynthia Schneider, principal at Reitz Memorial High School, Evansville, celebrates her birthday June 27.

Catholic Center staff

Tim McGuire, the diocesan chief operating officer, writes in an e-mail to Catholic Center staff, “As you know, Mary Baumgart retired earlier this month. Since Mary’s retirement, Margie [Nord], Dianna [Morales] and Mary [Shepard] have not only continued to carry out their existing job responsibilities, they also have covered the receptionist position. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them for their extra efforts.

“Also, I’m happy to report that starting on June 10 the receptionist position will be filled by two people. Cathy Crowdus and Marilyn Durchholz will be sharing the position. Cathy will work as the receptionist on Mondays and Fridays and continue her existing duties the remainder of the week.

“Marilyn will be our receptionist on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.”

Happy Birthday!

Michelle Fischer, parish catechetical leader at St. Mary Parish, Huntingburg, celebrates her birthday July 2.

Annual trip a ‘great success’

“The annual trip to Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari for servers, greeters and lectors in all four parishes was a great success!” writes Shirley Jeffers, of a recent trip for parishioners of the four Martin County parishes of St. John, Loogootee, St. Joseph, Bramble, St. Mary, Shoals, and St. Martin, Whitfield.

“Thanks to all the chaperones for their help: Connie Allbright, Rosemary Harder, Tracy Spurgeon, Audrey Robinson, Traci McAtee, Lynn Harshaw and Jamie Abel.

“Father Effie [Erbacher] joined us for part of the day as well!”

Saying good-bye

Sally Sternberg, principal at Holy Family School in Jasper, writes “Congratulations” to the Class of 2013! I am proud of them and wish them the best as they move on to high school. I leave them with the following lyrics from the song ‘The Words I Would Say’ by Sidewalk Prophets.”

Be strong in the Lord, and never give up hope,

You’re going to do great things, I already know,

God’s got His hand on you so, don’t live in fear,

Forgive and forget, but don’t forget why you’re here,

Take your time and pray, these are the words I would say.
