Second graders at Holy Cross School in Fort Branch are completing their “Crusader Cross” project which included art and prayer – along with some money for the Ronald McDonald House.

Their teacher, Shelley Weiss, explains, “Back in October we kicked off our ‘Crusader Crosse’ project of making and selling wooden mosaic crosses.

“The wooden crosses were cut by Mark Spindler, father of my second grader Alex.

“The kids worked for almost two months taking orders from parishioners and making the crosses. They glued mosaic glass tiles in the shape of a smaller cross onto the larger wooden cross. As the class participated in this project, they prayed every day for the people who would receive the crosses and for the people who would receive the donation money.

“All the money went to the Ronald McDonald House in Evansville to support sick children and their families. We ended up raising $600 for the foundation and made 48 ‘Crusader Crosses.’

“The students were very excited to be able to help out families in tough times financially and spiritually. They were also hoping to spread Christ's love through their ‘Crusader Crosses’ hanging on the walls of many homes.”
